Disappointment Over Tyler Cowen’s Take on the JFK Assassination

by
Anyone familiar with Tyler Cowen knows that he has been blessed with a brilliant and analytical mind. Such being the case, I was particularly interested in reading his Bloomberg article “How to Test Your Favorite Conspiracy Theory,” at least insofar as it related to the assassination of President John Kennedy. I wanted to see how Cowen applied his legendary analytical skills to that seminal event in U.S. history. Alas, after reading the article, I was left with nothing but disappointment. Mind you, the article wasn’t only about the JFK assassination. It also encompassed other subjects, like UFOs, the Malaysian Airliner crash, insider trading, baseball scandals, the moon walk, and Paul McCartney. Nonetheless, Cowen’s comments on the JFK assassination were fascinating, revealing, and, well, disappointing. Here is what he writes: I am inclined to think (although not certain) that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.... Another way to search for true conspiracies is to scour history for deathbed confessions. Did any Cuban or Soviet ...

America: a Military Nation

by
Americans like to think of their country as different from those run by military regimes. They are only fooling themselves. Ever since the federal government was converted into a national-security state after World War II (without a constitutional amendment authorizing the conversion), it has been the Pentagon, the CIA, and the NSA that have run the government, just like in countries governed by military dictatorships. Oh sure, the façade is maintained — the façade that is ingrained in all of us in civics or government classes in high school and college: that the federal government is composed of three co-equal, independent branches that are in charge of the government. But just a façade. It’s fake. It’s a lie. It’s true that the federal government used to consist of three branches. But that quaint notion disintegrated when the federal government was converted to what is known as a “national-security state” after World War II. Even though it was done without a constitutional amendment, ...

Why Is the U.S. Spying on China?

by
The federal government’s arrest of former CIA agent Jerry Chun Shing Lee for allegedly spying for China confirms, once again, that for the U.S. national-security branch of the federal government, the Cold War never ended. Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Lee is suspected of having revealed the existence to Chinese authorities of Chinese citizens who were serving as spies for the U.S. national-security establishment. Those Chinese citizens, not surprisingly, were subsequently executed by Chinese officials for serving as spies for the U.S. government. Wait a minute! Forgive me for asking a question that it doesn’t even occur to the mainstream media to ask: What in the world is the U.S. government doing spying on China? I thought the Cold War was over. I thought that it ended in 1989. I thought China was supposed to be a friend of the United States. Why is the U.S. government hiring Chinese citizens to spy on their own government? (Perhaps ...

The Mainstream Media’s Deference to Authority in the JFK Assassination

by
I just finished watching an interesting documentary film entitled The Searchers by Randolph Benson, who teaches at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. The film focuses on private researchers during the aftermath of the JFK assassination who have questioned and investigated the official narrative put out by the Warren Commission and the Washington, D.C., establishment. According to ...

Russia: Our New (and Old) Official Enemy

by
Robert Mueller’s investigation of the Trump administration confirms the overarching power of the national-security establishment section of the federal government and what happens when a president bucks that power. At the center of the controversy is Russia, which the Pentagon and the CIA and their assets and acolytes in the mainstream press and Washington, D.C., establishment, have deemed to be ...

The Extra-Legal Backstop for a Dangerous President

by
The military in Zimbabwe announced yesterday that it had arrested the country’s president, Robert Mugabe. While a military spokesman denied that a military takeover was underway, all signs indicate that he is lying. The president’s whereabouts are unknown, military checkpoints have been established on streets in the capital, tanks have been seen near the capital, and the military has ...
