Dear Friend of FFF,
The Future of Freedom Foundation is seeking your end-of-year financial support. We are fighting harder than ever to move our country in a better, freer, and more peaceful, prosperous, and harmonious direction. We need your generous support to continue spreading ideas on liberty far and wide.
Imagine an America that is once again leading the way in the principles of freedom.
Imagine an America in which people are once again free to keep everything they earn no more IRS or income tax.
Imagine an America in which people are free to decide what to do with their own money save, spend, or invest it or help others through voluntary charity.
Imagine an America in which people are once again free to interact with the people of the world through commerce and cultural exchanges without regulation or restriction.
Imagine an America in which the federal government is no longer serving an imperial role as the worlds international policeman and is instead reined in to serve the limited-government role envisioned by the Founding Fathers.
Imagine a world in which federal officials are no longer trampling over the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Imagine an America in which we have sound, solid money once again, rather than the ever-inflating paper money of the Federal Reserve.
Imagine an America in which the decades-long war on drugs and all its correlative violence has finally been brought to an end, where drug addiction can finally be openly treated as a social problem rather than as a criminal-justice one.
Imagine an America in which we are once again building a model society of freedom for the world to emulate.
These are the freedom principles and ideals for which The Future of Freedom Foundation has been fighting and for which we continue to fight. There are those who claim that such noble pro-freedom ideas and ideals are no longer possible. Given the post9/11 situation, they say, the most we can hope for is to reform the warmed-over, big-government welfare-warfare state with which we are currently saddled.
Balderdash! Don’t forget that there were those who were saying the same thing about the Berlin Wall before it came crashing down, suddenly and peacefully.
There is no doubt that these are dark and stormy times for advocates of liberty: the USA PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act, the enemy combatant doctrine, suspension of habeas corpus, denial of due process and trial by jury, torture, warrantless searches and seizures, perpetual wars and occupations, free-speech zones, out-of-control federal spending, ever-growing welfare-state programs, the drug-war debacle, and financial and monetary crises.
Oftentimes, however, dark and stormy mean that one is close to reaching a mountaintop. With crisis comes tremendous opportunity the opportunity to raise peoples vision to a higher level to the restoration of the great and grand principles of freedom and a limited-government republic on which our nation was built.
Ever since our inception in 1989, we have not only emphasized the vital importance of economic liberty to a free society, we have also taken a leading role in advancing the idea of a noninterventionist foreign policy and in pointing out the critical importance of civil liberties to a free society. That includes the publication of our 1996 book, The Failure of Americas Foreign Wars, and our 2003 book, Liberty, Security, and the War on Terrorism.
Throughout the years, we have repeatedly warned that unless America returned to its founding principle of noninterventionism, there would be damaging consequences for our nation. Prior to 9/11, we were voices crying in the wilderness. In the aftermath of 9/11, some people even questioned our patriotism when we pointed out what even the CIA has concluded: that U.S. foreign policy is the root cause of terrorist blowback against our country. We have paid a large price for our principles in terms of lost donations over the past six years.
Given the ongoing debacle in Iraq and the ever-increasing infringements on civil liberties, growing numbers of Americans are now considering the pro-freedom message on foreign policy that we have been advancing. This phenomenon is manifesting itself especially in the political arena with the excitement being generated by the pro-freedom, noninterventionist message of presidential candidate Ron Paul, who, I am proud to say, gave FFF the Ron Paul Liberty in Media Award for outstanding freedom website several years ago.
This past year, we held one of most important conferences in the history of the libertarian movement: Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties, which featured 24 of the greatest speeches that have ever been given on these burning issues. Each Friday we upload one of these speeches to YouTube.com and link to it in our FFF Email Update to share it with the world. To date, the first segments of our conference videos have received 45,300 viewings! In fact, the speeches by two of the most popular speakers Ron Paul and Andrew Napolitano, who jointly electrified the audience the final evening of our conference have themselves received 30,300 viewings. To get a sense of how fantastic the conference was, see the testimonials we received from participants.
Because of the critical importance of foreign policy and civil liberties, we are now putting together a spectacular follow-up conference: Restoring the Republic 2008: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties, featuring another all-star lineup of speakers whose commitment to getting America back on the right track is unparalleled. You do not want to miss this conference! (June 68 at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, Virginia.) We have now copied all the 2007 talks to DVD and CD format, and they will soon be available for purchase. We are also in the process of creating an Internet conference website, which will enable people to attend both the 2007 and 2008 conferences by watching the videos of all the talks on the Internet.
We want to continue leading the way to a free, peaceful, prosperous, and harmonious society. That’s why we are asking you to make as large a donation to FFF as you can this year. Were fighting hard to restore moral principles and the principles of freedom to our land, but as you know, all this does not come cheap, considering the expenses of a conference coordinator; speaker fees, accommodations, and travel; editing and author fees; expanded office space entailing a significant increase in rent; upgrades in computer equipment; website improvements; and increases in normal overhead expenses.
Every morning, five days a week, we are in the office at 6 a.m., searching the Internet for the finest pro-freedom articles and editorial humor to include in our FFF Email Update, along with an original FFF article, a freedom quote of the day, a list of the newspapers across the country publishing our op-eds, notices of upcoming FFF appearances, and Hornbergers Blog, my daily perspective on current events. Believing that ideas have consequences and that the Internet provides the best way to disseminate ideas on liberty, we continue striving to make the FFF Email Update the finest daily libertarian op-ed page on the Internet, free for the asking.
On a weekly basis, we email FFF op-eds to some 13,000 newspapers, big and small, all across the United States, with the aim of raising peoples vision to the principles of a free society. And we continue to appear regularly on talk-radio shows and to spread the word through speeches and debates. When public opinion changes, so will the mindsets in Washington, D.C.
Finally, every month for 17 years we have published Freedom Daily, our journal of libertarian articles, whose aim is to raise peoples vision to the moral, philosophical, and economic principles of a free society. It is in Freedom Daily that we build the long-term moral and intellectual framework of the free society and where we develop the long-term principles of liberty that are built upon that framework.
We want to continue doing what weve been doing for 17 years advancing liberty without compromising our principles. America can once again lead the world to the highest reaches of freedom ever imagined. Our work depends on your generosity. We sincerely hope that our efforts to advance liberty have earned your confidence and your generous support.
