No doubt trying to break President Obama’s record for deporting illegal immigrants, President Trump had his immigration gendarmes conduct secretive immigration raids at workplaces in Mississippi, which succeeded in rounding up and arresting 680 suspected illegal immigrant workers. That means that Trump’s people have to arrest only 10 million more in order to achieve his dream of an illegal-immigrant-free society.
Ironically, Trump’s raids took place soon after the massacre in El Paso, which was designed to prevent the “invasion” of the United States by Hispanic immigrants, an “invasion” that Trump himself has long decried as consisting of murderers, rapists, and stealers of American jobs.
Leftists and the mainstream press are decrying the raids and pointing to the suffering that the raids are inflicting on immigrant families, including the many children that were left parentless after the raids. Their laments, however, are hard to take seriously for two reasons:
First, they didn’t cry about such raids when Barack “Deporter in Chief” Obama was doing them. According to an August 3, 2019, article in the Wall Street Journal, “under Obama, removals hit a record of 409,849; in 2018, under Mr. Trump, 256,085 immigrants were deported.”
Second, with his violent raids, Trump is simply enforcing America’s system of immigration controls, a system that the left and the mainstream press both support. Given such a system, how is Trump supposed to enforce the law except through state-sponsored violence that inevitably comes with death, suffering, and a police state?
Let’s be clear. The crocodile tears being shed by the left and the mainstream press are nothing but political posturing. If a Democrat replaces Trump as president, the violent raids, deportations, Berlin Fence, highway checkpoints, roving Border Patrol checkpoints, boarding of buses to check people’s papers, warrantless searches of farms and ranches, body cavity searches, separation of children from parents, cell phone searches, and other police-state enforcement measures will continue. And the crocodile tears will cease. That’s because Democrats believe in America’s system of immigration controls as much as Republicans do. They just shed the crocodile tears when it’s Trump, not their man, doing the searching, raiding, arresting, and deporting.
But wait, I just noticed something important! According to the media, those raids were on “workplaces”!
What?
Aren’t “workplace” where people work? That’s impossible. Everyone knows that immigrants come to America to get on welfare, not work. What gives with that? Is it possible that that is a typo and that the raids actually took place on welfare offices, where illegal immigrants are lined up to collect their welfare checks?
Come to think of it, I have never heard of an immigration raid on a welfare office. What’s up with that? Given that immigrants come to America to get on welfare, wouldn’t welfare offices be the perfect place to raid? Just think, they could round up the rest of those 10 million illegal immigrants in one fell swoop as they stand in line to get their welfare checks.
There is a simple reason why there are never — repeat never — any immigration raids on welfare offices. That’s because immigrants come to America to make money, and nobody makes money on the dole. The welfare argument is nothing more than a convenient canard for rightwingers who favor America’s socialist system of immigration controls.
And it is a socialist system, which is precisely why there has been a decades-long, ongoing, never-ending immigration crisis. That’s what socialism does. America’s immigration system is based on the socialist principle of central planning, which, as the economist Ludwig von Mises pointed out, produces “planned chaos.” Can you think of a better term to describe the immigration mess in America? Just think: thousands of people crammed at the border wanting to enter the United States to work, even while crops are rotting in the fields in the United States owing to a shortage of workers to harvest them. That is “planned chaos,” not to mention the death, suffering, and immigration police state that accompany this socialist system.
Haven’t both Republicans and Democrats inflicted enough death, suffering, and dysfunctionality on American society? Why don’t they just do the right thing and step aside and let us libertarians restore life, liberty, free markets, morality, peace, prosperity, normality, harmony, and limited government to our land?
