Why No Indictment for Conspiring to Murder Castro?

by
During the Church Committee hearings in the 1970s, Congress and the American people learned that the CIA, in partnership with the Mafia, conspired to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Ever since then, the U.S. mainstream media has poked fun at the various ways the CIA and the Mafia intended to kill Castro — e.g., via an exploding cigar or an infected scuba suit. In the process, however, the media has failed to ask a deadly serious question: Why weren’t the CIA and the Mafia ever indicted for conspiring to assassinate Castro? Under U.S. law, assassination is considered murder. Anyone who assassinates another person is indicted and prosecuted for murder. That’s why, for example, that the accused assassin of President Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald, was going to be indicted and prosecuted for murder. It’s why the assassins of former Chilean official Orlando Letelier, who killed Letelier on the streets of Washington, D.C., were indicted and prosecuted for murder. It’s why Mafia ...

Charlottesville and America’s Death Machine

by
Amidst all the furor over President Trump’s suggestion that “both sides” are to blame in the recent violence in Charlottesville, I wish to weigh in on what I hold is a major contributing factor to the Charlottesville mayhem, including the killing of 32-year-old Heather Heyer: the U.S. government’s death machine, which has been killing millions of people in foreign lands for more than 50 years. A caveat: I am not a psychiatrist or psychologist and have not had any training in either field. My theory is precisely that — a theory. But I am convinced that it is valid and, therefore, I wish to “put it out there” for consideration. As longtime readers of my blog know, this is not the first time I have set forth this thesis. I have set it forth before in the wake of bizarre acts of violence committed here in the United States. As everyone knows, for the past 25 years the U.S. government has been ...

The National Security-State and JFK, Part 1

by
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 In 1954 the CIA published a top-secret classified document titled “A Study of Assassination.” The document confirms that within seven years of the CIA’s founding in 1947, the agency was specializing in the art of assassination. There are various fascinating aspects of the study. One is that the CIA was exploring different methods by which to kill people. The other is that the CIA was figuring out ways to keep people from discovering that it was involved in the assassination. If we jump ahead ten years or so, we find that the art of assassination was being taught to Latin American military personnel at the School of the Americas. It was the U.S. military’s primary training school for Latin American military officials and, in fact, was often referred to by Latin Americans as the “School of Assassins.” The art of torture was also being taught at ...

The U.S. Government’s Power to Assassinate

by
Throughout the presidential campaign, including the presidential debates, among the issues that have not been raised or discussed is the federal government’s power to assassinate. The power to assassinate is now consider an accepted power of the federal government. In fact, most people, especially mainstream reporters and pundits, treat federal assassinations with blasé and nonchalance. Most people undoubtedly believe that ...

Should America Pardon the U.S. National Security State?

by
Several weeks ago, contemporaneously with the release of Oliver Stone’s excellent movie Snowden, friends and admirers of Edward Snowden launched a campaign to have President Obama pardon him for disclosing the NSA’s super-secret illegal surveillance scheme to the American people and the world. The reasons for the pardon request were excellently summarized in an op-ed that appeared in the ...

U.S. Hypocrisy on Due Process with Duterte

by
The U.S. government is upset over Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte’s efforts to win the war on drugs. U.S. officials are criticizing Duterte for killing suspected drug-law violators without providing them due process of law. Ever since he was elected president of the country, Duterte has unleashed a state-sponsored reign of terror that includes extra-judicial executions of people suspected of ...

No Limited Government Under a National Security State

by
Conservatives have long professed to be advocates of “limited government.” They often employ the phrase in their favorite mantra, “free enterprise, private property, and limited government.” As I pointed out in my blog post yesterday, “Conservatives and the Free Market,” conservatives also profess to be advocates of free enterprise but then endorse practically every statist program that comes down ...
