JFK’s War Against the Military Industrial Complex

by
A question I often receive in response to my articles and books on the Kennedy assassination is: What difference does it make? The assassination took place almost 60 years ago. My answer: Look at three things: (1) the current budget of the military-industrial complex; (2) the perpetual foreign-policy crises into which our nation has been plunged; and (3) the totalitarian-like, dark-side powers wielded and exercised by the national-security establishment, none of which can be reconciled with a genuinely free society. Congress recently awarded the military with a budget of $839 billion, which was several billions more than what President Biden had requested. That’s a lot of money. And it all comes out of the pockets of the American people. Look at the foreign-policy crises and chaos since the end of the Cold War. The Persian Gulf War, deadly sanctions against Iraq, terrorist blowback, the global war on terror, the deadly and destructive invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and ...

The Pentagon Is Behind Pelosi’s Trip

by
Joe Biden wanted to make it clear that the Pentagon was opposed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, a trip that was obviously intended to gin up a crisis with Red China.  The notion that the Pentagon opposed Pelosi’s trip is sheer nonsense. In my opinion, there is no possibility whatsoever that any member of Congress, and especially the Speaker of the House, would ever buck the Pentagon on anything. The Pentagon, the CIA, and the NSA — i.e., the national-security branch of the federal government — own and control Congress — lock, stock, and barrel, just as they own and control the president and the Supreme Court.  This is not a new phenomenon. Once the federal government was converted to a national-security state, everyone in Washington knew that there was a new sheriff in town, one that wielded omnipotent, totalitarian-like powers, including the power of ...

America’s Culture of Death

by
In the wake of another mass shooting, this one in Uvalde, Texas, there have been the standard, predictable calls for gun control. The idea is that if more stringent gun-control laws are enacted, there will be fewer mass shootings. That’s simply ludicrous reasoning. When a person wants to kill a lot of people, he is going to be able to get his hands on a gun, even if he has to go into the black market to do so. After all, drug possession is illegal, and no one has any problem getting his hands on drugs in the black market. Instead, what gun-control laws do is disarm the victims. The gun-control laws prevent them from defending themselves. Who wants to take the chance of a felony conviction for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon? There are plenty of gun shows in Texas. Why didn’t that mass murderer choose a gun show to initiate his killing spree? Because he wasn’t stupid. Mass murderers traditionally ...
