Fascism, American Style

by
“If we define an American fascist as one who in case of conflict puts money and power ahead of human beings, then there are undoubtedly several million fascists in the United States.” ― Henry A. Wallace, 33rd Vice President of the United States This is an indictment of every politician who has ever sold us out for the sake of money and power, it is a condemnation of every politician who has ever lied to us in order to advance their careers, and it is a denunciation of every political shill who has sacrificed our freedoms on the altar of Corporate America. They’re all fascists. If Donald Trump is a fascist—as nearly half of Americans surveyed believe—then so is every other politician in office or running for office in America who has ever prioritized money and power over human beings. Truly, apart from Trump’s virulently bombastic comments and his metaphorical willingness to spit in the wind in order ...

Do They Hate Belgium for Its Freedom and Values?

by
Repeating myself sometimes gets tired and tiresome, but when it comes to the endless stream of innocent people who continue to be killed in terrorist attacks, it’s important to do so. Until enough people realize the root cause of the ongoing and never-ending death and destruction and decide to do something about it, the death and destruction will continue indefinitely into the future. As I have written so many times in the past, especially since the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. national-security state has been the greatest terrorist producing machine in history. It is impossible to come up with a bigger one, no matter how far you go back into history. When the Cold War was going on, Americans weren’t concerned about terrorism. Oh sure, there might have been domestic terrorism inside certain countries, especially ones in which there were tyrannical regimes or internal grievances, but there certainly wasn’t the international, cross-border terrorism that we see today. That’s because the national-security state had ...

Conservative Apoplexy Over Obama and Che

by
Conservatives are going bananas over the fact that President Obama permitted himself to be photographed in Cuba in front of a mural of Che Guevara. According to an article in The Atlantic, the “photo op in Havana pushed them into full-on apoplexy.” The conservative reaction is based on the notion that no self-respecting American, much less a president, would ever permit himself to be associated with a self-avowed communist/socialist like Che Guevara, even indirectly. Come on. Conservatives are only fooling themselves. They’re certainly not fooling us libertarians. The fact is that conservatives believe in and embrace the entire socialist economic program that Fidel Castro and Che Guevara brought to Cuba. Let’s start with the two socialist programs that Fidel is most proud of: nationalized healthcare and free education all the way through college. Sure, we all know that Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and American leftists would love that type of healthcare system for the United States. But I ask you: What American ...

This Year’s Presidential Politics Equals Continuing Big Government

by
The daily and unending bombardment of political campaign reporting and news, with its “drama” about who will be the Republican and Democratic Party candidates for the U.S. presidency, hides from view the continuing and real choice facing the American public: freedom or statism, individual liberty or government control. This real underlying question is hidden from view because the media coverage ...

America Doesn’t Need a National-Security State

by
The American people are absolutely convinced that they need the U.S. national-security establishment, namely, the military, the CIA, and the NSA. Without this totalitarian-like apparatus that was grafted onto America’s governmental system after World War II, it is commonly believed, Americans wouldn’t be safe. It’s the national-security state, the story goes, that is America’s last bastion against the terrorists, ...

The Libertarian Sticking Point

by
Why aren’t more Americans libertarians? Why aren’t more liberals becoming libertarians? They generally share the libertarian commitment to freedom of speech, civil liberties, personal freedom, privacy, and the Fourth Amendment, or at least they claim to do so. Why aren’t more conservatives becoming libertarians? They generally share the libertarian commitment to the free market, limited government, free trade, property ...
