Wednesday, March 26, 2003 Supplimental Below are reader Response to The Rot at the Center of the Empire by Jacob G. Hornberger. ##### I’m so happy to be a supporter of your organization. This is a beautiful piece of work. Thank you. M.D. ##### I hope you don't mind, I have a link to your article "The Rot at the Center of the Empire" in this morning's edition of my website. T.M. ##### I'll keep it short and sweet.. you write a little article "The Rot at the Center of the Empire" your article jumps for a-z and makes a lot of accusations invloves a lot of people… mentions a lot of tragedies… without much background… Although your article generates some thoughts in my mind.. you call this phenomenon a rot.. Is not a rot .. is and has been a concerted effort that has been occurring for many years…groups of people, driven by collectivist ideal.. that the expansion of government to be a united world government… and to control of the masses of all the world...….is just result of the collectivist practitioners coming to fruitition… pronouncing their godless religion upon the world … so that they can try out their political ideals and try to push their morality.. and if we not like it .. we will be shot or bombed or have weapons of mass destruction used upon us… the morality is such that God cannot exist… government is god.,. and corporations are the angels.. is all run by banks and the lies propagated that fossil fuels need to be had to run the machine… and is simply the prophecies within the bible and several other sources being played out ….is the last days coming to fruition,,, potentially… and if you really believe that the people in this country are going to wake up before the scenario plays out.. because of you article or foundation.. .. in you last statement you say it a catastrophe… confront the truth… you never define what that catastrophe is…you never claim the real truth.. all seem to forget that we supposed to have limited government.. the lies propagated by our government and a lot of media claim that these terrorist and radicals hate us.. they not hate us.. they despise a government that shifts policies as fast as the wind… so if was a government as defined by our founding fathers.. a republic.. a limited democracy.. that has become now a greedy war mongrel.. that needs money and oil to support its growth and power.. would not be issue… the answer my friend is in the fact that we, our government has and does continue to allow oil to dictate our economy…although we have corn and soy beans rotting cause we cant give them away fast enough,, and we just don’t be able to make fuel from these oils.. I find it humorous that government wants so much control over we the people .. at the expense of the family farmer whom they have decimated over the years… the no one promotes alcohol and soy oil fuel technologies.. all renewable.. all need technology development.. could surely be improved… but just think.. then our government might lose control of food… and of the masses and maybe we wouldn’t need all that government.. all you have to do is look at what any successful dictator has done in the past.. is many of same things happening here and now today,… control food… control energy,.. control education.. control media.. control money… create a national (worldwide) cause .. that being terrorism… what else is left in summary I think you bring up some symptoms and my opinion is that your alarm is much too weak and late .. and you offering real causes and no real solutions … so is useless. J.N. ##### The republic is lost, having been replaced by empire. The American people, in all likelihood, have not pondered the fate of all previous empires on this planet before giving their approval to the change from republic to empire. With the loss of the republic comes the abolition of the rule of law, there now being the rule of men. Thus evil and megalomania become the characteristics of the leadership of the empire. Evil, megalomaniacal leadership, by its nature, seeks to always expand its power over all, including its own subjects. Thus, laws such as the Patriot Act and all such similar laws, are enacted to "secure" the subjects. Little do the subjects realize that they are, indeed, "secure", until such time as they try to go anywhere or do anything. At that point do they then realize just how "secure" they are, but, by then, the leviathan, having imbibed the elixir of absolute power, ignores or crushes them, depending on the mood of the masters. Along the way, the very children of those who have given power to the leadership are coercively drafted into the service of the empire, thus rendering the giving of the power by the subjects not unlike feeding on their own children. Empire is, indeed, expensive. All are "secure", however. Thus the price is "worth it". Finally, when all freedoms are lost and absolute security has been achieved, only then will the somnolent recognize the travesty of their actions, but then, as always, it is too late. A dead republic with its loss of freedoms will not be revived. The subjects then realize the veracity of the statement that "nations may or may not get what they want, but, in the end, get just what they deserve". For us, thanks to our fellow "citizens" (loose term, that), we will deserve the coming police state and all its attendant brimstone. K.H. ##### U.S. lies, propaganda, deception et al, started with that tyrant , ole "honest" Abe. G.S. ##### Thanks for a thought-provoking column. We never met, but I am one of your voters in Amelia County. Run against Allen for Senate next time and I'll vote for you again. Too bad you didn't beat Mistah Jawn. He really is a pox on the Senate and an embarrassment to the Commonwealth. E.R. ##### Make a poster out of it and sell it. This is beautiful. M.Y. ##### God bless you for carrying the the torch of truth in this times of misinformation and propaganda and a systemic plan to deceive the public. S.R. ##### Read with interest your comments from March 14th. In forwarding it on to a friend, I stated that I thought the core of your argument was quit true. Keep up the fight. J.T. ##### As Earl Long is reported to have said, "That dog don't hunt." Either we're looking at some pretty ridiculous multi-level gameplaying here ("They made them somewhat fake so they could not be traced back if it were noticed that they were fake...") Which was clearly doomed to failure ("the forgers had made relatively crude errors.") -- which does not make the slightest bit of sense. Anyone who had A-brain-one would have known those were going to get scrutinized. I don't believe, by any means, that our government is beyond dirty tricks -- I would not be amazed to be given credible proof that they knew about and allowed the 911 attacks (there is enough circumstantial evidence to make one go 'HMMM!?!?' without being remotely proof...) Your argument, though, that they faked it, does not hold water. I DO, however, accept the notion that they may well have proof which the releasing of would involve compromising one or more intelligence sources that they don't wish to compromise. This, combined with the fact that Saddam has, quite apparently, always had world power aspirations lead me to be perfectly willing to think it not a bad idea to remove him from power and support a change in attitude there towards the US. If no other way, this should be possible by the means the Romans used, by making the people there infinitely better off in association with us than by themselves or with others. J.T. ##### Mr Hornberger's article, "The Rot at the Centre of Empire" was a great - and sobering - thing to read. He is to be commended for writing it, and I will do my level best to see that others read it. He does commit one error which gratuitously (though innocently) weakens his case, though I don't want him to in any way imagine that I think less of his efforts because of it. He cites a scene from the movie "Braveheart" to illustrate governmental ruthlessness. He could have picked a better subject. That movie was a hilarious, over-the-top, grotesquely unhistorical romp that had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the reality of the time, place or incidents portrayed. Mr Gibson, who made it, is like so many others guilty of reading modern prejudices and attitudes into their pseudo-historical works. We must be on guard against being made to look foolish by the woeful ignorance of modern movie-makers.D.G. ##### Thanks for the wonderful analysis of the rot at the centre of the American Empire. J.B. ##### your latest piece touches perfection!D.S. ##### What??? Our government lie to us??? Congratulations on a fine article, "The Rot at the Center of the Empire". It pains me to ask the rhetorical question above, but then again, such questions need to be asked. Our leaders need their feet held to the fire as we ask that nasty three word question: "Is this Constitutional?" Wow ... what a concept. And the current administration is by no means alone. * The "reasons" Mr. Clinton gave us for bullying Yugoslavia during the so-called "Balkan Conflict" were bogus at best. The 'death camps' and 'mass graves' and other hype was nonsense....I'm accustomed to the lies. But I will not accpet them. H.H. ##### Please take me off of your e-mail list. Your views on immigration and free markets are constructive and well worth reading; your take on the war against terrorism and Iraq is reprehensible. T.B. ##### Mr. Hornberger is the type of "rot at the center of the empire", that should leave America for better oportunities elsewhere! R.U. Subscribe to FFF Email Update.
