Dear Friends of FFF,

The Internet was one of those fortuitous and unforeseen events in life that provided The Future of Freedom Foundation with the ability to reach countless people with our uncompromising perspectives on liberty. Several years ago, our donors provided us with the major financial support necessary to construct our website, which later received an “Outstanding Freedom Website” award from Congressman Ron Paul.

We were one of the first free-market organizations to post all of the articles we have ever published online, with the aim of spreading our ideas on freedom far and wide. And while our op-eds and radio appearances serve the primary purpose of spreading our perspectives in newspaper and radio markets, they serve the dual purpose of directing people to our website, where people can then more deeply explore the libertarian philosophy, not only with our own articles but also by clicking on the links to other libertarian, pro-free market groups, where they can explore their perspectives as well.

As I stated in my “We Can Prevail” letter, we are now approaching almost 100,000 “unique visitors” (different computers) to our website per month. And as you know, there is also the immeasurable power of the “forward” button on everyone’s keyboard, which enables them to forward articles, blogs, and commentaries to others.

It’s trite but the Internet has truly revolutionized our lives. And it is playing a major role in the advancement of liberty through the dissemination of ideas on liberty.

Politicians and bureaucrats might think that they’re the ones in control, but it just isn’t so. Ultimately, ideas rule the world. And sound ideas on freedom are the means by which we will be able to get our nation back on the right track — toward individual liberty, moral principles, free markets, private property, and a constitutional republic.

As you know, FFF is fighting hard to accomplish this. But we need your generous financial help more than ever to help us continue doing so. We need your generous donations to cover our substantial operational expenses over the next year, especially with respect to our efforts to spread the word through the Internet, including our website and our FFF Email Update. To make a (tax-deductible) donation to FFF or to support our work with a subscription to Freedom Daily ($25 print; $15 email), please click here to access our Subscribe and Support page or send us a check or MasterCard/VISA information (including amount and expiration date) to the address posted below.

Yours for freedom,
Jacob G. Hornberger

P.S. Longtime supporters of FFF know that supporters who donate $100 or more to FFF receive a phone call from me to personally thank them — and sometimes we even solve all the world’s problems in a 15-minute conversation!

The availability of recreational land and wilderness is another facet of the land supply that concerns us. People worry that population growth and an increasing use of land for cities, roads, and agriculture will reduce the amount of recreational land.

It would seem obvious that a larger number of people must imply less recreational land and the disappearance of wilderness. But like many intuitively "obvious" statements about resources, this one is not correct.

The facts: Recreational and wilderness land area has been growing by leaps and bounds during the period for which data are available. Land dedicated to wildlife areas, national and state parks, and recreational uses has risen from 3.3 million acres in 1900 (plus another 46.5 million acres in the national forest system) to 10.6 million acres (plus 160 million) in 1930, 49 million acres (plus 181 million) in 1960, to 176 million acres (plus 186 million in forests) in 1990.
